The challenge
The greatest challenge was the depth at which the work had to be carried out: 65 metres. This required specialised procedures, adapted gas mixtures and extensive safety preparations. We drew on expertise from both recreational and technical diving disciplines to develop safe working methods.
The conditions demanded extremely precise planning and a team that had to work together seamlessly. The wreck itself was also far from cooperative, adding even more complexity to the operation.
Solution and preparations
In the lead-up to the operation, we organised intensive training sessions to ensure we had a thorough mastery of all procedures, gas mixtures and working methods. Information was gathered from both the commercial diving sector and the technical diving sector, resulting in a broadly supported, safe approach.
Thanks to this preparation, the team grew much closer together and developed into a unit with complete trust in one another. Thanks to their perseverance and expertise, the MV HEL103 was ultimately successfully recovered.
